The Foyer
You're here. You may not know why you're here yet. You may not know where anything is.
And you definitely don't need to know where you're going next.
Sometimes caring starts with a crisis. Sometimes it sneaks up slowly. Sometimes someone says the word carer before you've ever thought of yourself that way.
However you arrived, the foyer is where you get to stop for a moment.
No decisions required just yet.
You are here.
The foyer can feel strange because nothing is settled. You're inside the house, but you don't know whether you'll be here for an hour, a week, a year, or somewhere in between.
Uncertainty has a way of making every possibility feel urgent. It doesn't mean every possibility will happen.
Being in the foyer doesn't mean you're moving into the whole house.
Sometimes things do become harder. You may find yourself needing another room. If that happens, we'll show you where the lights are.
But sometimes support arrives early. Treatment helps. The crisis settles. Things begin to make sense again.
Sometimes the person you love finds their footing, and so do you.
Sometimes you were only ever meant to be here for a little while.
You're allowed to stay here for a while.
You don't have to choose another room yet. You don't have to stand around waiting either.
This chair is for you.
Sit down.
Nothing is required of you here.
You don't need to know what happens next. You don't need to have the right questions. You don't even need to know what you need yet.
For now, you can just be here. There's another chair.
Because sometimes we don't need someone to fix what is happening.
Sometimes we just don't want to sit with it alone.
Would you like someone to sit with you? Pull up a chair →You can stay here as long as you need.
When you're ready, the other rooms will still be here.
Where do you need to go next?
You don't need to choose the “right” door. Choose the one that sounds most like today.
The Kitchen
I'm keeping everyone and everything going, and I'm running out of room for myself.
Go to the kitchen →The Laundry
Things look familiar, but something about our life feels different now.
Go to the laundry →The Room With the Closed Door
There are things I'm thinking or feeling that I don't feel allowed to say out loud.
Close the door behind you →The Lounge
I don't necessarily need answers. I might just need somebody to sit with me.
Come sit down →The Basement
Everything is too fucking much. I cannot think about the whole house right now.
We'll start here →The Exit
Maybe things are settling. Maybe I can already see a way back toward my own life.
Look for the door →
